CIVITELLA DEL TRONTO

A few kilometers from the beaches of Alba Adriatica stands the fortress of Civitella del Tronto, one of the most impressive works of Italian military engineering, famous for being the last Bourbon stronghold to fall, thus marking the end of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. The fortress, which dominates the Val Vibrata from a cliff, extends for about 500 meters, with residential and defensive areas. Visiting the fortress means immersing yourself in Italian military history and admiring the suggestive view of the village below, full of charm and culture, such as the Church of San Francesco and the famous Ruetta, considered the narrowest street in Italy. GOLE DEL SALINELLO

The Salinello Gorges offer a fascinating combination of history, culture and nature. This natural monument, created by the Salinello Torrent over millions of years, forms a gorge that is kilometres long and about 200 metres high, with widths that vary from a few to tens of metres. The waters of the river have carved waterfalls, caves and cavities, creating a suggestive spectacle, particularly appreciated during the summer for a regenerating bath. Continuing along the path, you arrive at the Grotte di S. Angelo, the largest karst cavity in the valley, 40 metres deep and 30 metres high. Also dug by the waters of the Salinello, the cave houses historical finds dating back to the Paleolithic and a stone altar dedicated to San Michele Arcangelo, a destination of pilgrimages for centuries. The Salinello Gorges are a perfect destination for a day of hiking, nature and history, suitable for all lovers of adventure and natural beauty.
